Ripon Cathedral 19.30

John Dunford: conductor
Orchestra D'Amici

One of the largest choirs in Yorkshire

Men in rehearsal

Ripon Choral Society is a thriving and friendly community choir under the musical directorship of John Dunford. We are a large choir of about 150 singing members. We rehearse on a Wednesday night and we perform a varied repertoire of choral music, usually 4 times a year in Ripon Cathedral.

With a reputation to match

Altos singing

..... among the elite of Yorkshire’s most famous choirs.
David Denton, Yorkshire Post. [Britten: War Requiem]
Ripon Choral Society is now the largest choir in Yorkshire. Might it be worth speculating that it is also the finest?
Paul Shepherd. Northern Echo. [Handel: Messiah]

Over the Easter period we will rehearse on Weds March 21st, then break for 2 weeks, recommencing on April 11th.

We are always keen to welcome new singing members. If you would like to sing with us then you can either contact our secretary in advance, or just come along to the first rehearsal - we will be ready to welcome new singers. You are welcome to attend a few 'taster' rehearsals for free - but once you decide to join us (as we hope you will) then a subscription becomes payable. Details are on the 'singers' tab above.

We are a community choir, open to anyone. But being able to read music, if only at a basic level, will be needed. At one of your first rehearsals you will be asked to undertake a short, and very easy, voice test in a group, singing with other new starters.
